Whirlyball Atlanta to host 2013 National Tournament

On June 19 Whirlyball Atlanta will host the 2013 National Tournament. Over 26 teams in 4 divisions will compete for 5 days to win their respective banners.  Each team is seeded through a series of games leading up to the eventual double elimination tournament.

You might be thinking..”Can I compete?” The answer is YES!! There are divisions for every experience level, and the registration fee to compete is $150. This fee includes all Whirlyball games, lunches, sodas, gift bags, winner’s prizes and more! Each Monday night until June we will host an open league so that beginners and advanced players can learn the game and develop skills needed to compete. As we get closer to the tournament we will make teams that include ALL interested and committed players. For more league and nationals info feel free to call our office at 770.998.6161!

They shot the “Internship” then shot some Whirlyball!

The crew and cast  of the upcoming comedy “The Internship” came in to blow off some steam and play some Whirlyball. The competitors were Vince Vaughn, Owen Wilson and the cast of a 2013 comedy about two recently laid-off men in their 40s try to make it as interns at a successful Internet company where their managers are in their 20s.  While no new league talent was discovered, the competitive juices were flowing as the cast fought it out in a Whirlyball tournament.  Thanks guys for keeping us laughing on and off the court!

Using a gps to find us? Here is some helpful info!

If you think your gps may not have been updated in the past few years please use the old address: 608 Holcomb Bridge rd suite 130 Roswell, Ga 30076.  The post office changed our street address a few years ago and certain gps systems cannot find the address.

For your reference:  We are located on Commerce pkwy, this is the street between Mansell and 92 (Holcomb Bridge Rd). There are two parking lots on the right, one for the movie theater and the other is ours.

All Jacked Up!

The typical church groups were nowhere to be found on Sunday night. Instead, two tour busses rolled up with the crew and members of Tenacious D. Jack Black and Kyle Gass attempted to thwart the typical butt kicking that its counterparts generally deliver to visiting bands…alas there was no Tenacious defense that night. Jack wielded the scoop of destiny but could not deliver a winning shot. He vowed redemption on his next trip through Atlanta…until then “Skidoosh”!

Atlanta takes home the coveted trophy…sweeps the playoffs!

Years of hard work paid off on Sunday at 3:45 am when Brad Bettenia, Darryl Baker, Sean Lenke and Timmy Knight heard the final buzzer and clinched Atlanta’s first title. Seeded second in the C division, the Atlanta S(h)ooters waltzed through the playoff brackets and pulverized a very tired Seattle team. Of the 145+ participants in the tournament, many were present went that final buzzer blasted and stormed the court to congratulate a team that showed much improvement over the past few years.  The obstacles have been considerable. Seattle has a league consisting of hundreds of players, and Dallas has well over a hundred in their league. Cleveland’s player pool has steadily increased also, and Michigan consistently brings multiple teams in each division. Our Atlanta league is comprised of 12-20 folks. If Atlanta wants to compete on a regular basis we need more league participation..and that means YOU! Our new league info will be posted soon and there is no experience necessary. Atlanta is slated to host the national tournament in 2013..are YOU ready for YOUR banner?

Atlanta sends 2 teams to Texas for the National Tourney

You probably won’t flip on Espn, Espn2, Espn the Ocho or any other sports channel and find the 2012 Whirlyball National Tournament. It certainly wouldn’t be a stretch to think that might change one day.  With bowling, darts, fishing and even curling on tv…why not Whirlyball? Until then we will just have cross our fingers and support our players as they continue their plight for the coveted championship banner. Since our 2012 leagues began we have added several new players to our traveling roster. Both teams that represent Atlanta have a great chance of winning their prospective divisions in the tournament that begins Thurs June 21 in Plano, Tx. With over 30 teams competing, the tournament lasts 4 days and hosts players from Atlanta, Cleveland, Miami, Dallas, Seattle and Michigan. In 2013 we are bidding to host the tournament in Atlanta so grab some friends and join our leagues! Who knows…maybe it’ll be your team holding the banner on Espn some day!
